The Ikeda Woman
By Anthony “Amp” Elmore

A few months ago my SGI friend Marsha Waller indicated that she wanted me to talk to an SGI leader who was coming to Memphis. If one were to read our chronological SGI challenges you would read that it was Marsha Waller whom most of the time was the intermediary between me and SGI leaders. Since departing the SGI years ago I have talked to everyone in the SGI from an SGI Vice President, Study department Chief, Jack Leg Preacher and an SGI reform Priest. Whom could the SGI want me to meet with next and what would the value of our conversation be?

I learned that I was to speak with Dr. Donna Fabion who is a physiologist who has a practice in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to the meeting I had many thoughts in my mind; however I was extremely happy and sad at the same time. I was extremely happy to see the successful professional African/American Buddhist woman, but on the other hand I was disheartened to see women whom I call Ikeda Women or the Condelessa Rice of Buddhism AKA some cold hearted sisters. Sisters like this work for the phone company or the utility company and they without thought would cut your utilities and smile in their face.

Via the eyes of perhaps the average American Condelessa Rice has reached the pinnacle of success in the American dream. It is suggested that she would make a great running mate to Republican hopeful John McCain. Billionaire realtor Donald Trump called Condelessa Rice the worst Secretary of State in the history of American politics because as Trump puts it; “she don't cut no deals”. George W. Bush mislead the American people in an unjust war and we attacked a Sovereign nation whereas over a million people have been displaced and when it over perhaps a million Iraqis people would have been killed, over 4000 Americans have died, countless number are injured and no one actually knows how many are facing post traumatic stress. Condelessa Rice is a part of our government whom has done many heinous crimes, that has taken our country in the wrong direction.

In the eyes of many little girls Condelessa Rice will be a hero and role model. The SGI Buddhist organization has created or honed what I call the Condelessa rice or the Ikeda woman. The Ikeda woman is an interesting phenomenon and it was the Ikeda woman whom was responsible for Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism and SGI Buddhism reaching American soil. History will show that it was Japanese women whom married American soldiers first brought NSA Buddhism to America.

Many of those small and spirited Japanese women convinced their husbands to become Buddhist. One could stretch it a bit and same many of the women were married to Daisaku Ikeda first and their husband second. One can go so far as to say that some of these women actually married American soldiers to carry out an Ikeda agenda.

Based on my research in the matter these women were as dedicated to Ikeda as deep as a prostitute is dedicated to a pimp. Ikeda and the women shared a strong Karmic bond. During my SGI days I once dated an Ikeda woman and all I could do was marvel at her resolve and strong Buddhist spirit. She is today one of the top African/American leaders in the SGI. On the surface everything that we had made us perfect candidates from marriage, however deep within we were as different as Tina Turner and Whitney Houston. They both are great singers but there is a world of difference between them.

The Ikeda woman was spiritually married to Daisaku Ikeda and her life was dedicated more to the SGI movement than to any marriage. I think today my former friend is married and whoever her husband is he knows that he is second to the SGI. One has to give Daisaku Ikeda credit when it comes to women he knows how to influence women. The times that I heard Dr. Ikeda speak he always hires beautiful Japanese women as an interpreter who knows how to convey his spirit.

During my SGI days the Japanese women ran the show, they were quiet but effective. The Ikeda woman had the ability to put a brother in line for Dr. Ikeda. In Memphis where I practiced Buddhism those Japanese women trained many of the African/American women to become Ikeda Women. A brother in the SGI could not say a word and he was shaped to follow an Ikeda agenda and a brother will be in a subordinate role. In Memphis today Sisters run the SGI organization.

One can safely say that the same pattern that existed in Memphis went through-out SGI locations in America. On the occasion of meeting Dr. Donna Fabion there was no need for introduction because we already knew each other. Meeting Dr. Fabion was like meeting an opponent in a boxing ring and all I could do was smile because she was Daisaku Ikeda signature tough. The characteristics of many Ikeda women are beautiful, articulate, accomplished and most of all they can masterfully sell an Ikeda agenda.

The Japanese women in the SGI are no longer the dominate force upfront and these women have trained some African/American women and I sense a deep spiritual machination whereas Daisaku Ikeda is saying “I own your woman, therefore I own you.” If would be a rare occasion to find strong SGI African/American males in concert to the powerful Ikeda women. On a rare occasion one may find a strong African/American man here and there, however I would think that it would be a rarity to find strong African/American males in the SGI overall.

Fortunately I am not an SGI male and I am certainly not dominated by an SGI Ikeda woman. Dr. Donna Fabion and I never completed our conversation. However in our early conversation I found her to have zero knowledge of Black history in Buddhism although she is an African/American SGI Buddhist leader.
We wrote challenges to the SGI years ago and those challenges are yet to be answered. SGI men will not show up in the SGI because the conditions are not right to build strong Black men via the SGI. A woman cannot make a man.

Daisaku Ikeda made these Ikeda women and just as he made a strong, cold calculating woman he could have made a supportive loving sister. In 1998 I traveled to Accra, Ghana and I saw first hand what it was like to see supportive Buddhist none-Ikeda Black Buddhist women.

Former SGI General Director Joseph Asomani was married to a Japanese woman and I certainly do not know the details of his marriage, but I did recall him saying that she thought that she was the leader in Ghana. This may infuriate many SGI leaders but many of the early pioneer SGI women were once prostitutes. The issue here is not about the ethics of prostitution but the mind-set of the Japanese woman and their relationship to Daisaku Ikeda. There were Japanese women who were so dedicated to Buddhism that they did what it took to spread Buddhism, I am not putting any merit on this issue. This should not surprise anyone because there are records of Catholic Nuns marrying African Chiefs to spread the Christian religion.

Do not get upset with me but in a closed country like Japan an American soldier is not going to meet a nun. After the war you had many poor Japanese women marry soldiers to improve their lives. I do not want to focus on the history of alleged Japanese Prostitutes and Buddhism but I do want to focus on the tough military spirit of the Ikeda Women and their practice and commitment to Daisaku Ikeda.

It is amazing how the Japanese Weekly Bunshun reported that Linda Johnson an L.A. Deputy Attorney General and now SGI Vice President was involved in a scheme to create a scandal and they came up with the Hiroe Crowe Scheme. Hiroe Crowe was a 50's Japanese prostitute. These are examples of Ikeda Women and that of a cold but dedicated woman. Dr. Donna Fabian had mention to me about a group of them traveling to Japan to be honored. I read so such an honor years ago and I did not ask her was this the time Linda Johnson was honored by Daisaku Ikeda also.

During my SGI challenges it was rare to be challenged by male but all of the letters and challenges that I faced were with SGI Ikeda women. If a man challenged me he was more than likely put up to do so by a woman. I asked Dr. Donna Fabian did her husband support her SGI activities and the answer was no, in fact he was Jewish Doctor and she was a physiologist.

I challenge any SGI African/American male in any city to tell me that an African/American male runs anything and I will show you an organization run by an Ikeda Woman. We mention about this phenomena to Memphis SGI woman leader Toni Crushfield that she was an Ikeda woman. In fact it was our dealing with Toni Crushfield that I learned about the Ikeda woman and traveling to Ghana to meet a different type of Black Buddhist woman.

In 1998 I traveled to Accra, Ghana to the opening of the 1st Nichiren Shoshu Temple in Ghana. In Africa in the Hokeko Buddhist organization I met hundreds of men, women and their children practicing Buddhism as a family. In America in the SGI after the ex-communication of the SGI from Nichiren Shoshu I witnessed in Memphis a disproportionate lack of African/American males in the SGI and I watched African/American males in the SGI take on subordinate roles to women and I witness the growth of an over-zealous woman in the SGI. Over the years I document challenges with as must as 95% African/American women. Just as an outside observer I noticed that African/American males in the SGI have become; “missing in action.” The new phenomenon of leaders in the SGI among African/Americans is the “Ikeda Women.”

Whether it is an African/American woman, a White woman a Japanese woman or a woman of any ethnic background we must reach higher and put Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism back on the correct path. This path of a separate Nichiren Shoshu and SGI is not the correct path for us Buddhist. There are many African/American Ikeda women who are in a position to change the direction of Buddhism in America and help put us all again in the path of unity.

We must realize that our temples are a part of our institutions and when we neglect our temples our infrastructure will crumble and we will come apart from the seams and grow into a disfunctional people. I have seen in the SGI how this phenomenon of disproportionment of the roles of African/American men and women in the SGI has emerged and such action is unnatural and will eventually lead to a very dysfunctional organization. Ikeda women be aware!!!!!
